Just For Teachers

Harvard Public Library is committed to providing excellent service to children and young adults. One way to do this is to offer special assistance to those who work with young people: teachers, home educators, day care/preschool providers, and others whose work involves significant contact with children and young adults. For these people, Harvard Public Library offers the following services:

Assignment Alert Forms

When you assign a project that requires your students to use library resources, it is helpful to us if we know about the assignment ahead of time. This ensures that the first student who visits us does not check out every book we have on the subject. With notice, we have the opportunity to set aside a collection of appropriate materials on a temporary reserve basis. By reserving some materials for use within the building (as opposed to being checked out), we can be sure that material is available to all of your students.

Homework Reserve Shelf

When you notify us of an assignment you have made we will pull the appropriate materials and set up a reserve shelf for the students to use.  Advance notice also enables us to obtain materials from other sources.  By restricting these materials to in-library use, they will be available so that all students can complete the assignment.

Interlibrary loan

As a member of the C/W MARS network, Harvard Public Library patrons can access and borrow the holdings from the 126 member libraries.  If Harvard Public Library does not own the materials you need, or should many students be researching the same topic, we can borrow the additional materials through the C/W MARS library system.

Book Lists & Research Guides

Harvard Public Library would be happy to provide customized book lists for your classroom needs. In addition we can create a Guide to Starting Research on a topic for your students.  Guides to Starting Research include books, encyclopedias, and websites.
